History: Exponent’s past, present and future

In the beginning ... Stef Geens recognized back in 1993 that a need existed for a professional company specialising in building elements for experience-driven learning. In the United States he had seen how military obstacle courses had been converted to team-building elements. He later designed his first course and built it with a small team. At home in the world of outdoor sports, Stef also staged training courses for facilitators working with this course.

Expoglider® The commercial market did not fail to notice the increasing demand for ropes courses. One thing was certain: the growing demand for recreational courses for ever-larger groups was bound to give rise to safety problems. After years of hard work and numerous tests, the first Expoglider® was marketed in 1999. It was the first belay system that required no action whatsoever by the user from start to finish. The product was an instant success. Exponent soon found itself installing the Expogliders® system way beyond the borders of Belgium and today it keeps thousands of adventurists safe all over the world.

Exponent Technology & Services The company's expansion necessitated restructuring. Since then the company’s building activities and training courses have been developing along parallel paths. In their own right the two sister companies have won acclaim and deliver their built products and training courses accompanied by national and international certificates.

Partners Working solely from Belgium was no longer an option because of the need to offer good and fast service worldwide. We were fortunately able to enlist the services of other well-known and reliable construction companies in other countries. They enthusiastically represent Exponent and the Expoglider®. Learn more about these companies on the partners page.

Exponent, today and tomorrow Exponent today builds a variety of courses and has several world firsts to its name. Among other things we were the first to build on sloping poles and to develop a wheelchair lift for ropes courses. To learn more visit our portfolio. Exponent has already constructed its first two low-energy dwellings made of wood with straw insulation. Here again we strive for and succeed in delivering top quality, witness good reviews and an expanding order book. Expoglider® 3.0 is now reality and the changeover point for safety lines was unveiled this year as a world first. Other projects are still under development. We'll keep you informed.
